Sure, Liverpool is known as the birthplace of The Beatles, but it’s so much more than that. The city is proud that it’s where The Beatles got their start, though. There certainly is a reason for it. As a matter of fact, Liverpool is considered by Guinness World Records to be the “World Capital City of Pop.” American poet Allen Ginsburg called Liverpool “the centre of consciousness of the human universe.”
There are many things to see and do in Liverpool, even if you’re not a Beatles fan (and who isn’t?), and even if you only have three days to visit this historic city. Its long history, for example, means that there is a wide range of architectural styles of the buildings of Liverpool, ranging from the 16th century Tudor style through the contemporary architecture of today. Most of the city’s buildings were erected after the 18th century, when it was most influential in the economic life of the British Empire and the world. Liverpool also has more public sculptures than any other UK location, other than Westminster, and the most Georgian houses in Britain.
Here are some of the exciting and interesting attractions in Liverpool, ones you simply must find the time for during your long weekend in the city. Mersey Ferries offers travelers a unique way to experience Liverpool’s spectacular sights and learn about its rich history. Any day tripper in Liverpool must include The Beatles Story, a Beatles-only museum located in Albert Dock. You must spend at least a day at Sefton Park, a beautiful 200-acre naturally landscaped park.
If you’re a Beatles fan, you must visit the famous Cavern Club, where the band first played and one of the most important music venues in Britain. The Club even offers a tour which specialises in music and The Beatles, with two-hour, full day, and full weekends trips throughout the city on its colourful Magical Mystery Tour bus that culminates in live entertainment at the Cavern Club.
